Ryan Fequet received the 2018 Outstanding Volunteer Award in the Individual Category. Since 2007, Ryan has served on the boards of NWT Soccer, Canada Soccer, the YK Adult Soccer League, Sport North, YK Slopitch, Folk on the Rocks and the Ravenscourt Condo Board. He is estimated to have contributed 6,800 hours of volunteer service, or two hours of volunteering a day for 10 years.

 

 

I attended the reception of the Fédération nationale des conseils scolaires francophones pour son implication dans l’éducation francophone, with Education Minister Alfred Moses, Marie Wilson and her granddaughter. I am enormously proud that my wife Suzette Montreuil won a national award in recognition of her lifelong promotion of the French language.

 

 

 

 

I attended the launch of the Yellowknife Homelessness Roadmap Action Plan at City Hall. The plan was developed under the leadership of Mayor Mark Heyck and the territorial Minister responsible for Homelessness Carolyn Cochrane. It contains 11 recommendations to improve the lives of people homeless on our downtown streets, and our citizens using and living in the downtown. Good work everyone.

I toured the site of the new hospital with my fellow MLAs (left to right) Caroline Cochrane, Alfred Moses, Health Minister Glen Abernethy and Julie Green. We all signed a steel beam that will be built into the new facility. The new Stanton Territorial Hospital opened on May 26, 2019.

I road my bike in the annual Canada Day parade, which was a great success. Next year is Canada’s 150th anniversary. I invite constituents to contact me with information about their Canada 150 projects, to see what support I can offer.

I attended the federal government consultation of climate change and met with federal environment minister Catherine McKenna. More than 100 people attended to share their ideas on action to meet Canada’s international commitments for reducing greenhouse has production.
E. Food charter
The Yellowknife Food Charter was launched at public reception January 15. I joined (left to right) Food Charter Co-ordinator Tracey Williams, Yellowknife Mayor Mark Heyck, and Yellowknife Farmers Market President France Benoit at the celebrations.
D ede in hay river
Members of the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment met in Hay River to develop strategy for committee business. Attending were (left to right) MLA committee members Cory Vanthuyne, RJ Simpson, Kieron Testart, me,and Daniel McNeely. Brad Mapes (front, seated) attended to brief members on his Aurora Wood Pellets manufacturing plant proposal.
